Professor Sola Timothy Babatunde was born on the 6th February, 1962 in Moro, Kwara State, Nigeria. He joined the services of the University of Ilorin in April, 1989 as an Assistant Lecturer. He then rose through the ranks to the position of a Professor of Applied Linguistics in October, 2012. His areas of teaching and research interest include: Semantics, Syntax, Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and Applied Linguistics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Departments of English and Linguistics and Nigerian Languages; where he has also successfully supervised about seventy postgraduate theses. He has been the Head of his Department, Sub-Dean of Arts, and Director of the Linguistic Immersion Center, in the University. He has about seventy reputable publications in his name. His inaugural lecture, the 215th in the series, delivered on February 3rd, 2022 is entitled: “Dethroning Silence and Installing Meaning: The Burden of Applied Linguistics”.
